Test Details

Methodology

Immunofluorescence, Immunoblot

Result Turnaround Time

4 days

Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

Use

Voltage-Gated Potassium Channel (VGKC) antibodies (predominately Anti-LGI1 and Anti-CASPR2) are associated with paraneoplastic neurological syndromes and limbic encephalitis. These antibodies may also be found in other conditions such as acquired neurmyotonia, painful neuropathy, Morvan's syndrome and rare tumors (e.g., thymoma, small-cell lung cancer).

This indirect fluorescent antibody assay utilizes LGI1 and CASPR2 transfected cell lines for the detection and semi-quantification of autoantibodies.

Special Instructions

If reflex test is performed, additional charges/CPT code(s) may apply.
