This test is used for the detection of antineuronal autoantibodies that help in the diagnosis of paraneoplastic syndromes.

Limitations

A negative paraneoplastic autoantibody result does not rule out all clinically relevant antibodies. If indicated, a phenotype-specific profile (for example, encephalopathy, dementia, myelopathy or axonal neuropathy) should be considered.

This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Labcorp in accordance with CLIA requirements. This test has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Custom Additional Information

This Paraneoplastic, Autoantibody Profile should be considered for the evaluation of patients who present with subacute neurological disorder of undetermined etiology, especially those with known risk factors for cancer. The Autoimmune Neurology/Comprehensive Paraneoplastic Profile [505500] can be considered if the autoimmune neurological condition is suspected to be shared by multiple antibodies, or has overlapping features of paraneoplastic syndrome or several autoimmune neuropathies. Early specific autoantibody diagnosis and appropriate intervention, despite the initial cost of broader testing, may be cost-effective in the longer term given the devastating nature of many of these diseases.
