Test Includes

Activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT); anticardiolipin antibodies IgG, IgM; antithrombin activity; β2-glycoprotein I, IgA, IgG, IgM; dilute Russell's viper venom time (dRVVT) confirm seconds; dilute Russell's viper venom time (dRVVT) ratio; dilute Russell's viper venom time (dRVVT) screen seconds; factor II gene mutation; factor VII antigen; factor VIII activity; hexagonal phospholipid neutralization; homocysteine; protein C antigen; protein C antigen and factor VII antigen ratio; protein C resistance with factor V deficiency; protein S antigen and factor VII antigen ratio; protein S antigen, total

Special Instructions

Informed consent is required for New York patients. Will reflex to Factor V Leiden Gene Mutation if APCR is abnormal. If abnormal, aPTT will reflex to Immediate aPTT Mixing Studies. If reflex testing is performed, concomitant CPT codes/charges will apply.

    Specimen Requirements

    Specimen

    Serum, plasma, and whole blood

    Volume

6 mL (2 mL in each of three tubes) platelet-poor citrated plasma, frozen, 5 mL whole blood, and 2 mL serum, frozen

    Container

Gel-barrier tube or red-top tube, lavender-top (EDTA) tube, or yellow-top (ACD) tube, and blue-top (sodium citrate) tube

    Collection

Plasma must be separated from cells within 45 minutes of venipuncture and must be centrifuged a second time before being placed in plastic transport tubes. Freeze within two hours and keep frozen until testing is performed. Allow red-top tube to clot. Centrifuge and remove serum from cells within one hour. Send serum in plastic transport tube. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.

    Storage Instructions

Freeze serum and plasma. Maintain whole blood at room temperature; stable for seven days.

    Causes for Rejection

Noncitrated plasma; gross hemolysis; fibrin clot; clotted samples if adequate DNA not obtained
