Result Turnaround Time

Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

Gross and microscopic examination of 1 to 16 prostate biopsy sites

Special Instructions
Request form must state clinical history and number of sites submitted. Please direct any questions regarding this test to oncology customer service at 800-345-4363. Use of the urology/histology request form (number 1600) with preprinted specimen labels is recommended.
Labcorp test number is for tracking purposes only. Additional test numbers may be entered upon receipt of specimen(s) at the test facility.
Custom Additional Information
Prostate biopsy testing is billed according to the number of biopsies tested. Any additional testing performed, such as reflex testing or special stains ordered by the pathologist, will also be billed as performed.

One to 16 prostate tissue specimens, fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin, and submitted in the Labcorp Prostate Biopsy Transport Kit. (The kit can be obtained through most Labcorp locations as No. 3175.)

Collection Instructions
Label each histology specimen jar containing 10% neutral buffered formalin with patient's name and site of biopsy. If more than one specimen is submitted, separate specimen jars should be used. Place specimen directly into labeled histology specimen jar. Submit at room temperature using Labcorp Prostate Biopsy Transport Kit. Optimum fixation time in formalin is 12 to 24 hours.

Causes for Rejection
Specimen submitted frozen; unfixed specimen; specimen in fixative other than 10% neutral buffered formalin; lack of medical history; improper labeling; unlabeled specimen; no surgical specimen request form
