Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

Use
Cancer prognosis. In general, aneuploid tumors have an unfavorable prognosis compared to diploid tumors.

Limitations
Use of fixatives other than formalin may not yield equivalent or satisfactory results. No % S phase is reported for tumors analyzed by image cytometry. Small biopsies require image analysis of a 6-μ tissue section. This test is not a diagnostic test for cancer.
Custom Additional Information
The DNA index is a measure of the nuclear DNA content of tumor cells compared to normal cells. Tumors with abnormal DNA content are termed DNA aneuploid while those with DNA content equal to normal cells are termed DNA diploid.

Collection Instructions
Specimen should be fixed in 10% neutral-buffered formalin. Optimum fixation time is 12 to 24 hours, not to exceed 48 hours.
Storage Instructions
Maintain specimen at room temperature.
