Microbroth Dilution (MIC)
Test Includes
The antifungal agents in this yeast susceptibility panel include Amphotericin B, Anidulafungin, Caspofungin, Fluconazole, Isavuconazole, Itraconazole, Micafungin, Posaconazole, Rezafungin and Voriconazole.
Use
This test is used to determine the susceptibility of Candida isolates to antifungal agents. Interpretive criteria are provided for certain organism/drug combinations based on clinical data from infections with Candida spp. Note that the intermediate category when utilized provides a buffer zone to limit errors associated with inherent variability in the test method. Strains with intermediate MICs might respond clinically to a higher-than-standard dose of a drug or in situations in which drug penetration is maximized.
Limitations
Susceptibilities cannot be reported if the organism fails to grow in the test medium. Susceptibilities cannot be performed on mixed cultures.
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Labcorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen
Pure culture yeast isolate recovered from a primary clinical specimen and identified as Candida species

Pure culture Candida isolate on solid medium

Container
A swab transport inoculated with the isolate from a pure culture or an isolate growing on an agar slant in screw-cap container packed as an etiologic agent; maintain a subculture at the submitting laboratory
Collection Instructions
Candida species derived from cultured clinical specimen; send pure culture on maintenance media. Maintain subculture at submitting laboratory. Organism must be actively growing in pure culture. Do not submit mixed cultures.
Storage Instructions
Maintain media at room temperature.
Causes for Rejection
Isolate nonviable; yeast isolate other than Candida species (e.g., Cryptococcus species); non-yeast isolate (e.g., bacteria or mold); unlabeled specimen or name discrepancy between specimen and request label
