Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.
Use
This test is used to assess immunity against tetanus by determining levels of circulating antibodies to tetanus toxin or to measure the immune response, postvaccination, in individuals suspected of immunodeficiency disorders.

Limitations
Determination of tetanus toxoid antibodies is of no value in assessing the need for prophylactic or therapeutic management. Immunity declines with age, and boosters are recommended every 10 years.
This procedure may be considered by Medicare and other carriers as investigational and, therefore, may not be payable as a covered benefit for patients.
