Cytogenetics; fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)
Result Turnaround Time
7 - 10 days
Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.
Test Includes
BCR-ABL for chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), FISH; chromosome analysis; quantitative monitoring for CML by FISH; ABL deletions are confirmed by linked ASS analysis.
Use
Confirm the diagnosis of chronic myelogenous leukemia; establish the chronic-phase karyotype for comparison with blast crisis alterations; monitor residual disease

Please direct any questions regarding this test to oncology customer service at 800-345-4363. Please note that the chromosome portion of this profile is generally not successful on peripheral blood samples from CML patients receiving imatinib (Gleevec®).

Collection Instructions
Submit at room temperature using Leukemia/Lymphoma Specimen Transport Kit (supplied by LabCorp). Specimens should arrive in the laboratory within 48 hours of collection. Indicate date and time of collection on the test request form.
Storage Instructions
Maintain specimen at room temperature.
