Expected Turnaround Time

4 - 7 days

Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

Specimen

Serum, frozen; serum, refrigerated; whole blood and one blood film, room temperature

Volume

2 mL serum (1 mL each tube) and 7 mL ACD whole blood and 7 mL EDTA whole blood and one peripheral blood film

Container

Red-top tube or gel-barrier tube and yellow-top (ACD) tube and lavender-top (EDTA) tube

Collection

Due to loss of cellular viability, draw specimen so it will arrive in the laboratory Monday through Thursday and within 48 hours of collection. Specimens cannot be held over the weekend. State date and time of collection on the request form. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.

Storage Instructions

Refrigerated and frozen serum. Maintain whole blood specimen at room temperature.
