Test Details
Methodology
Enzyme immunoassay (EIA)
Result Turnaround Time
1 - 7 days
Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.
Limitations
Antibody response is highly variable with respect to cyst location and individual response. If a current infection is suspected, it is suggested that a convalescent serum sample be submitted in three to five weeks. All positive serology samples should be confirmed using a more specific test method (CDC) due to cross-reactivity with Taenia solium (cysticercosis).
