Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

This test is intended to be used in conjunction with standard serological tests to aid in the diagnosis of infections caused by Toxoplasma gondii.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or whole blood

Volume

0.5 mL

Minimum Volume

0.2 mL

Container

Sterile container (CSF), lavender-top (EDTA) tube, or yellow-top (ACD) tube

Storage Instructions

Whole blood is stable at room temperature or refrigerated for seven days; do not freeze. CSF is stable at room temperature or refrigerated for seven days or frozen for 90 days.
