Result Turnaround Time
4 - 5 days
Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

Aid in the diagnosis of Chlamydia (Chlamydophila) pneumoniae infection
Specimen Requirements
Specimen
Throat or nasopharyngeal (NP) swab, bronchial washings or bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), or NP wash/aspirate
Volume
One swab (in universal transport media) or 1 mL bronchial washings, BAL, or NP wash/aspirate
Minimum Volume
One swab (in universal transport media), or 0.2 mL bronchial washings, BAL, or NP wash/aspirate. (Note: This volume does not allow for repeat testing.)
Container
Universal transport media (swab) or sterile container (bronchial wash/aspirate, BAL, NP wash/aspirate)
Storage Instructions
Swab, bronchial wash, or BAL is stable at room temperature, refrigerated, or frozen for seven days.
Causes for Rejection
Quantity not sufficient for analysis; gross specimen contamination; specimen too old; leaking or broken tube
