Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.
Use
HIV PrEP use only: This test monitors kidney function using eGFR and creatinine in individuals who are eligible for or who are receiving pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV (PrEP). Per current recommendations, serum creatinine should generally be measured prior to or at the time of initiating PrEP. Individuals with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) <60 mL/min/1.73m2 are not candidates for TDF-FTC; those with an eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73m2 should not receive TDF-FTC or TAF-FTC.
Special Instructions
This is a PrEP-specific test number to ensure reimbursement per CARES Act. It contains a CPT code modifier.

Container
Red-top tube, gel-barrier tube or green-top (lithium heparin) tube. Do not use oxalate, EDTA or citrate plasma.
Collection Instructions
If a red-top tube or plasma tube is used, transfer separated serum or plasma to a plastic transport tube.
