Test Includes

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for myeloproliferative neoplasms/chronic myelogenous leukemia (MPN/CML) targeting numerical changes of chromosomes 8, 9, 13q14, and rearrangement of BCR/ABL1.

Special Instructions

Include the pertinent clinical diagnosis, previous cytogenetic studies, and probe of interest with the test request form.

Expected Turnaround Time

3 - 5 days

Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

Minimum Volume

Fixed-cell pellet from a cytogenetic analysis, five slides, 2 mL blood, or 1 mL bone marrow (For additional cytogenetic studies, an additional 1 mL of bone marrow is required.)

Container

Green-top (heparin) tube; pediatric Vacutainer® is optimal or lavender-top (EDTA) tube

Storage Instructions

Maintain specimens at room temperature.

Causes for Rejection

Broken or dirty slides; excessive cellular debris; stains on slides
