Quantitation of IgM in CSF

Use

This test may be used to evaluate the central nervous system involvement by infection, neoplasm, or primary neurological disease (ie, multiple sclerosis). A local synthesis of IgM within the CNS is most prominent in patients with neuroborreliosis or mumps-meningoencephalitis.

Special Instructions

The third tube of a routinely obtained three-tube set of CSF should be used for CSF IgM study.
