Gary M. Stuhlmiller, PhD, serves as a technical director in the division of DNA identity testing at Labcorp. He joined Labcorp following 11 years on the faculty in the Department of Surgery at Duke University Medical Center, where he was technical director of the Melanoma Immunobiology Laboratory. Dr. Stuhlmiller holds a BS in Microbiology from Cornell University and a PhD in Immunology from Duke University. Dr. Stuhlmiller has trained at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Duke University in the specialty of tumor virology.
His accomplishments include the publication of peer-review articles dealing with identity testing, transplantation and cancer research and invited chapters in several medical textbooks. Dr. Stuhlmiller has been a member of the American Association of Immunologists, the American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics, and the American Association for Cancer Research. He is certified as a clinical laboratory director by the New York State Department of Health. Dr. Stuhlmiller has reviewed over 800,000 cases of disputed paternity and has provided expert witness in more than 240 cases in 30 states. Among his credits as an expert witness are landmark cases dealing with the admissibility of DNA testing in United States District Court. Dr. Stuhlmiller is active nationwide in continuing education, having been an invited speaker for state and county child agencies in more than 25 states, the American Bar Association, and State Bar Associations in Alabama, Virginia and North Carolina.
