A Program to Address Compassion Fatigue in a Large Contract Research Organization

National AALAS 2022 -- Compassion fatigue is a common occurrence in the fields of veterinary medicine and animal testing, such that most workers have been impacted either directly or indirectly. Animal euthanasia, night work, weekend/holiday work and challenging study designs are some examples of things that can cause compassion fatigue. Common institutional signs of compassion fatigue include high turnover, reluctance toward change and a disregard for SOPs, policies and regulatory requirements, among others.
