Provide your patients with answers

Address the challenge of overlapping conditions

An overweight condition or obesity can have far-reaching impacts on overall health. Cardiometabolic conditions are some of the most prevalent chronic diseases in the U.S. and contribute to cardiovascular death as the number one cause of morbidity and mortality.

When you’re evaluating and managing the full picture of patient health, it can be challenging to navigate a maze of testing options and complex guideline-recommended screenings across these interconnected comorbidities.

At Labcorp, we can help you and your patients evaluate cardiometabolic risks early and empower informed decision-making.

Connected conditions

Understand the relationship between weight health and cardiometabolic health

You may be at a higher risk for other health conditions based on your weight. Sometimes you may not even be aware of these other conditions because they don’t always have symptoms. The earlier you know about your risk factors or the presence of a disease, the sooner you can get the care you need.

The importance of testing throughout your weight loss journey

However you choose to manage your weight, testing can help you identify any existing or new health concerns and track your measures over time. Common blood tests for weight loss management include:

Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP)

A CMP measures essential components in your blood (including sugars, minerals, electrolytes, enzymes and waste products) that contribute to your overall health and provide information on the functioning status of your metabolism, liver and kidneys.

Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)

Thyroid hormones influence everything from your heart rate to how quickly your body burns calories. A TSH blood test measures thyroid stimulating hormone, which stimulates the thyroid to produce two additional hormones—T4 (thyroxine) and T3 (triiodothyronine)—that play a critical role in controlling the body’s metabolism.

HbA1c test

This test measures your average blood sugar level over an extended period (8-12 weeks) and is a useful tool for screening for prediabetes and diabetes.

Lipid panel

A lipid panel measures the amount of good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterols, triglycerides and the total amount of cholesterol in the blood. High levels of bad cholesterol are associated with obesity and heart disease.

Liver function tests (e.g., FIB-4)

Checking your liver function is important for your weight loss journey. Obese individuals are at a higher risk of developing fatty liver disease and other liver disorders.

Micronutrient test or other

Depending on the weight loss option you and your provider choose, you may also take micronutrient tests to check essential vitamin and mineral levels or other tests specific to your treatment plan.
